A NEW resource centre built after a huge fundraising drive is continuing to receive support to buy vital equipment for blind and partially sighted people.
More than £200,000 was raised after Lindsey Blind Society launched an appeal to build the new facility at Louth. Some of the money was secured via grant aid but other cash came from local businesses and the community.
The Society still hopes to raise a further £150,000 to equip and run the centre - named Bradbury House. Lindsey Blind Society was established in 1921 and currently provides essential support to over 2,000 people in north and north east Lincolnshire and east and west Lindsey.
Among the latest companies to back the initiative is Jackson Building Centres which opened a new branch in Louth last summer. The firm donated £200 which helped to buy specialist `mono mice’ for partially sighted people to use with their computer or television.
Jackson’s representatives, including Louth branch manager Les Bratton, were invited to Bradbury House on Ramsgate to find out how their donation had helped to provide essential services for local people.
Jackson’s marketing manager Colin Bartleet said he was delighted to experience the work of the Society at first hand. “The new centre is clearly making a difference to the lives of people affected by sight loss and we are happy to support such a worthwhile local facility,” he added.
Mark Bratley, fundraising director of the Lindsey Blind Society, said the charity was extremely grateful for the support its appeal had received so far. “Donations such as this one allow us to provide people with the equipment and services that will really benefit them in their everyday lives. We very much appreciate the help of local businesses such as Jackson’s and everyone else who has contributed to our campaign,” he added.
