A CHILDREN’S charity is set to benefit from hundreds of pounds thanks to the fund-raising efforts of staff at a local builders merchant.

Employees at the Lincoln branch of Jackson Building Centres paid for the privilege of wearing fancy dress and casual clothes to work to raise funds for Strut in the Community - a Lincolnshire charity that provides respite care for disabled children and their families.

Money was also donated by customers throughout the day and the event raised just over £285. Jackson’s has since doubled the sum to make a total of £572 which will be presented to charity workers later this month.

Lincoln-based Strut is the chosen charity of joint managing director Simon Jackson and staff hope to arrange other fund-raising events to support it later in the year.

Sue Theobald, a management trainee at the Lincoln branch, organised the fancy dress day and said it was a big success.

“It’s always good fun to dress up in costumes and raise money at the same time. Staff entered into the spirit and some departments even had a theme! Our customers were brilliant too and really supported us,” she said.

Jackson’s has a history of helping the communities in which it trades when possible and has already made several commitments to charity events this year. The company will be sponsoring the Lincoln 10k road race in April for the second time in aid of the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Air Ambulance as well as supporting a number of appeals throughout the East Midlands.
