WHEN a long established cricket club won its first match of the season, the score was plain for all to see thanks to the help of Jackson Building Centres.

Staff at the company’s Skegness and Spilsby branches proved to be good sports by teaming up to supply a host of materials for a new score box at Skegness Cricket Club.

The original box at the club’s Richmond Drive ground was in need of replacement and repositioning and members approached various local businesses for support. Among the items donated by Jackson’s were bricks, blocks, sand and cement. The company also funded some new sign boards. Other local firms contributed materials such as carpets for the interior and carried out electrical work.

Spilsby depot manager Paul Futter who joined forces with Skegness branch manager Steve Turner to provide the materials, said Jackson’s was happy to help the local club.

“The score box needed building from scratch so we gave them all the materials they wanted and some of the first team players put it together in time for the start of the season,” he explained. And the timing couldn’t have been better when Skegness won its first game of the season against Alkborough by just one over, to notch up a winning score on the new box.

Groundsman Graham Barker, whose son Sean plays for the club and works at Jackson’s Spilsby depot, said players were very grateful for the donations they received.

“The old score box wasn’t really used because it was in the wrong place and was getting a bit dilapidated. It’s now on the other side of the field where it can be seen properly by the umpire and spectators and it really does look great,” he added.
