A COMMUNITY venue used by scores of local people has been given a much-needed facelift thanks to the support of local businesses.

The former St.John’s School on Scotgate, Stamford, has been redecorated free of charge thanks to the combined efforts of Jackson Building Centres and Newage AVK SEG. The building, which has three main rooms, is used as a church and community centre and is a popular meeting place for various local groups and organisations.

Jackson’s Stamford branch manager Lathen Tuplin was approached by Rev Clive Dixon, assistant curate at All Saints Church, to see if he could help with the project. Mr Dixon had already been offered the voluntary services of Newage employees to carry out the work but was still in need of decorating materials and admitted he was slightly concerned about securing them.

He was therefore delighted to learn, via a text message sent to him on holiday in Spain, that Jackson’s Stamford branch had agreed to provide decorating products and the project could go ahead.

Jackson’s donated 60 litres of paint and several roller kits and extension poles to help give the centre a new lease of life. Mr Dixon said the work, which was completed earlier this month, had made a huge difference. “The rooms had not been decorated for several years and were rather shabby and tired looking but are now much brighter and fresher,” he said. “The centre is in use almost every day and is a vital part of the community. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to both companies for their generosity.”

Lathen Tuplin of Jackson’s said he was delighted to help the worthwhile local cause. “We are happy to support community ventures in Stamford whenever possible and are pleased that the centre looks so much better and has given people a nicer place to meet,” he added.
