A CHARITY set up to help needy children and their families has established a new group in Lincoln with the support of local businesses.
HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust takes disabled and disadvantaged children for respite care to Lourdes in the French Pyrenees each year and the local branch needs to raise at least £10,000 to finance the trips.
Jackson Building Centres is one of the first local businesses to back the new group – named Lincoln 106 – and has donated more than £500 to help fund the first excursion which is planned for Easter next year.
The company’s donation will be used to sponsor a 14-year-old girl from the region who has cerebral palsy and has never been on holiday without her family. Jackson’s donation of £520 is the sum needed to pay for a child’s flight, accommodation, basic kit and any activities during the holiday.
Linda Hawbrook, the Lincoln group’s deputy leader, said: ”I am delighted that Jackson’s has chosen to sponsor a child and the trip will be a whole new experience for her. It will also give her parents the opportunity to spend quality time together as a couple which illustrates perfectly what we are trying to achieve.
“It is always difficult at the start of such a fund-raising venture and we will be relying heavily on donations such as this,” she added.
Jackson’s marketing manager Colin Bartleet said the company was keen to support worthwhile causes where possible, particularly at a local level. “The new group is aiming to give children and families in Lincolnshire the same opportunities as people in other parts of the UK and we are very pleased to contribute to its efforts,” he added.
Jackson’s has 20 branches throughout the East Midlands and South Yorkshire which regularly support a variety of initiatives and organisations ranging from schools and sports teams to community events and hospital appeals.
HCPT is a national charity, which caters for youngsters with special needs between the ages of seven and 18. Volunteer medical staff and carers are on hand during the week-long trips and children can take part in a range of activities they may not otherwise have the chance to experience.
