CHILDREN at a Stamford primary school will be able to enjoy lessons in the open air later this year thanks to a new project which is being backed by local businesses.
An outdoor classroom is being created at Ryhall C of E Primary School after teaching assistant Helen Bacon took charge of a project to transform an overgrown area of the school grounds.
Mrs Bacon approached several businesses for help and was delighted to receive various donations towards the scheme. Among the contributions was a Bradstone sun circle from the Stamford and Oakham branches of Jackson Building Centres which will be a focal point of the new development.
“We’re delighted with the support we’ve received and hope to have some more help installing the seating and paving,” explained Mrs Bacon. “We’re really pleased with the sun circle from Jackson’s which is very attractive and will probably have seating built around it. Jackson’s was extremely quick to respond to our request for help and delivered the sun circle within a matter of weeks,” she added.
Lathen Tuplin, manager of Jackson’s Stamford and Oakham branches, said he was happy to support a project which would benefit local youngsters. “Being able to learn outdoors in a special area is a great idea which I’m sure the children will enjoy,” he said. “We try to support community projects when possible and are very pleased to be involved with this one.”
Around 170 pupils aged between four and 11 attend Ryhall Primary and they will all have chance to use the new outdoor area which is particularly suited to science lessons. Mrs Bacon said the development was still in its early stages but she hoped it would be up and running by spring this year.
