Jackson Building Centre in Swinton has recently donated paint and fencing materials to help revive an 125-year-old sports pavilion in Mexborough.

The builders’ merchant in Swinton, in association with ICI, supplied the materials to the Mexborough Athletic Sports Trust to assist them in their restoration project. The project included making some much-needed improvements to the exterior of the ground and its main125-year-old pavilion and changing rooms.

Neil Bennett branch manager at Swinton commented: “When the trust approached us to get involved in this restoration project, we were delighted to lend our support .The pavilion is somewhat of an historic landmark in Mexborough, many generations of local people have fond memories of playing at the ground and using the pavilion. We wanted to help give something back to the local community by restoring it to its former glory for everyone to enjoy.”

Hugh Tingle, grounds manager at Mexborough Athletic Trust commented: The use of the materials and paint donated by Jackson via ICI has made it possible for the Community Services to operate and the trust is extremely grateful for their support.

The improvement to the exterior of the ground and the pavilion is clear for the local community to see and it has greatly enhanced the look of the whole complex.
