JACKSON JOIN FORCES TO SPONSOR POLICE CAR
20th September 2006
Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in Lincoln can get out and about much more easily now, courtesy of a vehicle sponsored by Jackson Building Centres and the Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG).
Simon Jackson, Joint Managing Director at Jackson Building Centre and Bob Dever, Security Manager at the Lincoln Business Improvement Group will present the sponsored car, a blue Ford Mondeo, to South West Sector Inspector Dave Legg at Jackson Building Centre’s head office at Pelham House, Canwick Rd in Lincoln on Thursday 7th September at 2pm.
The car was originally used as a fleet vehicle by Jackson, but is no longer required and is being generously loaned to PCSOs for a year to help them to travel around the communities. The car will be based at the city centre’s Lincoln police station on West Parade, but it is expected that it will also by used by PCSOs working in the more rural areas outside the city.
Lincoln City Centre is divided into two policing sectors – North East Sector and South West Sector – that match the Lincoln City Council local authority area. There are currently 16 PCSOs working within the city centre that have access to just one dedicated vehicle based in South West Sector
Head of Operations, Chief Inspector Maria Staniland, said: “This car, in reality, actually doubles the number of dedicated vehicles that the PCSOs have access to in the city centre. Thanks to this vehicle, the PCSOs will get much more out of their working day and the public will see a benefit too.
“The car will make a genuine difference to the level of service we can provide to the public and help us to achieve our aims through Neighbourhood Policing to boost accessibility and visibility in the community.
“We are grateful to Jackson Building Centres and the Lincoln BIG for their support.”
Colin Bartleet, Marketing Manager at Jackson Building Centres, commented:
“It is very satisfying to know that the car is being put to such a good use. Jackson recognises the importance of safety in the community and we are glad to be able to assist the PCSOs in carrying out their duties and to be able to increase the level of service and protection they can offer the community.“
