JACKSON SUPPORTS JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB

8th February 2007

Jackson Building Centres is once again supporting the local community by donating materials to an under 13’s football club.

The builders’ merchant in Swinton sourced around £1,500 worth of building materials, which were generously donated by some of the company’s main suppliers, in a bid to restore and refurbish the Conisbrough and Alma Junior Football Club’s stadium and training ground.

The initiative, which is headed up by George Hall, Academy Manager, aims to restore the 100-year-old ground, which was once home to Denaby United FC. The ground, which had been closed down for 4 years, prior to the football club taking over the lease, is currently under going a 2 - 5 year regeneration programme. It is hoped that main stand and changing rooms, which were left to deteriorate, will eventually be restored to their former glory.

George, a keen footballer, has been involved in the sport for the last 20 years, and once played in county senior teams himself. He received his Football Standard Accreditation in 2006 and set up the football club in 2005, in an attempt to give local children the opportunity to fulfil their football ambitions.

George commented: “This is a relatively deprived area and a lot of the young people don’t have much to aspire to. The club goes a long way to instilling a sense of pride into them and gives them something to aim for.

“These young people have an awful lot of talent and I wanted that to be recognised. We recently had 7 young people picked to go to the Leeds United Academy, which just goes to show that they have the ability and the focus is there.”

He continued: “The aim is to transform the ground into the best  junior football club stadium in the area and thanks to Jackson Building Centre we one step closer to reaching that goal.”

Neil Bennett, Branch Manager at Swinton commented: “When George approached us to get involved we were pleased to lend our support .The club is doing an excellent job of getting the kids off the streets and giving something back to the local community and we are delighted to be able to be involved in this very worthwhile project. “

Jackson Building Centres is also donating a bathroom suite as an auction prize at a forthcoming fundraising event at Denaby & Cadeby Miners’ Welfare Club, the proceeds of which will go towards the Conisbrough and Alma Junior Football Club restoration project.
