JACKSON STAFF FUNDRAISING SUCCESS

10th July 2007

TWO employees of Lincoln-based builders’ merchants Jackson’s have successfully raised money for two charities, The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and The Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield.

Paul Bullivant, branch manager of Jackson’s Chesterfield branch in Newbold Rd and colleague Chris Hannan, both raised money for their respective charities with the support of colleagues, customers, suppliers, friends and family.

Paul  took on the mighty challenge of competing in this year’s London Marathon to raise money for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. His desire to help the charity was triggered after loosing his father-in-law to lung cancer in 2000. Paul successfully completed the marathon with an impressive finishing time of 4 ½ hours and raised an even more impressive £5,581 for the charity.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer. The charity works towards defeating lung cancer through research, campaigning and education and provides practical and emotional support for patients and all those affected by lung cancer.

Chris, endured a challenge of a different kind and happily went under the knife, in a manner of speaking, when he had his hair chopped off to raise money for his nominated charity, The Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield, which cared for his father during his illness.
The sponsored head shave took place during a charity race night which Paul and Chris had organised to help boost their sponsorship funds and the proceeds were spilt between the two charities. Chris successfully raised £2,636 for the hospice.

Ashgate Hospice is an independent registered charity that provides specialist palliative care, both in the hospice and community settings, for adults in North Derbyshire. The needs of the patients, their families, friends and carers are fundamental to the philosophy of the hospice. Their aim is to enable people with palliative care requirements to have access to appropriate professional assistance and care and to help patients achieve the best possible quality of life in accordance with their wishes.
