JACKSON MAKING A HIGH VISABILITY IMPACT IN HORNCASTLE
1st May 2007
Staff at Jackson’s Horncastle branch helped to make a huge impact when they turned out to assist the 6th Horncastle Rivercare clean up project.
The dedicated staff were wearing new high-visibility vest, which the branch had kindly donated to help promote the Horncastle Rivercare cause and to ensure that volunteers can be seen clearly.
Samantha White, Fundraising and Publicity Organiser for Horncastle Rivercare commented: We are really grateful to Jackson for their continued support, to get the donation of the vests as well as hands-on assistance was really appreciated by everyone - to sign a cheque is one thing, but to give up time and turn up is another.”
“Despite over 20 apologies, 40 people turned out on a rather cold but sunny morning to tackle the very visible amount of rubbish that we were faced with this time. It really is a credit to Horncastle that there is such support to this project entering it’s second year.”
The volunteers wasted no time in getting their hands dirty and within just an hour and a half, the local scout hut was lined with a very good haul of bed frames, a mattress, fly-mow, tent pegs, duvet, jeans, towels and shoes, plus the usual paper litter, cans, bottles, glass and crisp/sweet wrappers – all collected from just a small area. Unfortunately, there wasn’t time to clear the actual river channel along Coronation Walk, however the volunteers cleared it a couple of weeks later.
Rik Pepper, branch manager at Horncastle, commented: “It’s always nice to support the local community, projects such as this are a great way of bringing together different individuals who all have a common goal, to clean up the environment in which they live and work. Everyone has enjoyed the day and the cakes, hot drinks and soup provided by some of the rivercare volunteers helped to keep the spirits up.”
For anyone interested in getting involved, future Horncastle Rivercare dates fro 2007 are: 7 July and 13 October. Everyone is welcome. All meets start at 10.30am at the scout Hut on Coronation Walk.
