JACKSON SUPPORT LINCOLNSHIRE BUSINESS FOR BREAKFAST

1st January 2008

Jackson Building Centres is once again proud to support the local community by sponsoring the launch of Lincolnshire Business for Breakfast, which took place today at 10.00am at the RMSC in Lincoln.

The Lincoln-based builders merchant has joined up with Lincolnshire Co-operative, with the support of Business in the Community, Lincolnshire County Council and Children’s Links to set up the charity, which supports school breakfast clubs.

Statistics show that throughout Lincoln there are primary school aged children who do not eat between free school lunches. Government figures show that more than 3.5 million children in the UK are living below the poverty line, whilst the Child Poverty Group estimates that 30% of children in the UK do not go home to a cooked meal.

The Lincolnshire Business for Breakfast charity aims to offer every primary and junior school in Lincoln funding to help them with setting up or sustaining an out of school hours Breakfast Club.

The Breakfast Clubs provide children with a healthy breakfast, which is proven to help their concentration, attendance and social interaction, whilst at the same time educating them on the benefits of a healthy diet and nutrition.

Simon Jackson, Joint Managing Director at Jackson Building Centres said:

“This is a really worthwhile cause and Jackson is delighted to be able to provide its support. The aim is to raise enough money to enable our local schools to provide children with a better start in life.”

Shona Welberry at Business in the Community said: “We are really grateful for the support of Jackson Building Centres and the Lincolnshire Co-operative, we are hoping that many more local businesses will get behind the scheme to help us raise our target of £47,000 per year, every penny of which will go on providing food for the breakfast clubs.”

Jackson Building Centres operates 25 branches throughout the East Midlands and has been a Business in The Community member for several years, raising funds and providing support for number of community projects.
