JACKSON BACKS PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECT

29th May 2008

JACKSON Building Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield has been helping to teach local school children some tricks of trade as part of their outside play provision.

Staff in the Foundation Stage Unit at Hillocks Primary & Nursery School on Unwin Road came up with the initiative to set up a builders’ yard as a role play area for the children, and wasted no time in enlisting the help of their local Jackson branch on Coxmoor Rd.

Warehouse Manager, David Cliff, arranged a number of visits for the children to the branch to give them inspiration for setting up their own mock builders’ yard, and made a number of visits to the school to support the children in their play. David also enlisted the help of other local businesses and Jackson suppliers to source a wide range of free materials, which the children to put to good use.

Headteacher Sue Regan said: “We are very grateful to Jackson for all their support, and to all the staff who helped us to make it one of the most successful projects that the school has ever completed.”

She continued: “The teachers, parents and children at Hillocks would like to extend their thanks to Lyndon Johnson, Branch Manager who allowed the visit to take place and to David Cliff who invested so much of his valuable time on the project.”

Lyndon said: “We are always keen to help our community. Projects like this are particularly rewarding as the children clearly get so much enjoyment from them, as well as learning something educational.”

Last week, Chair of Governors Mick Gillott accompanied some of the children to the Jackson branch, where they presented Lyndon and David with thank you cards.
