JACKSON BUILDS FRIENDSHIP WITH LOCAL SCHOOL
23rd June 2008
Pupils at a Grantham primary school will never be lonely again thanks to donations from generous-hearted staff at Jackson Building Centres.
Great Ponton Primary School’s new ‘Friendship Stop’ which aims to help youngsters befriend each other, has been officially opened following donations of time and materials from local people and the Grantham branch of Jackson Building Centres.
The branch’s Heating Manager, Robin Groundry, dug up his patio, which he was about to revamp, and donated the paving slabs to the Lincolnshire school following a plea for help with the project from Administrator Wendy Fraser.
Accompanied by Jackson Building Centres HGV Driver Tony Bilton, Robin delivered the slabs to the school along with sand and cement donated by the company.
The ‘Friendship Stop’ has its own bench in commemoration of Wendy’s father John Churchwood, and will be an area where lonely youngsters can sit to alert other pupils that they want someone to play with.
Wendy said: “We’re hoping that pupils will go to the area and other children will go over and befriend them. It promotes the idea of caring for each other.
“The help we have received has been brilliant and it wouldn’t have been possible without the goodwill and friendship of local people. It is a friendship stop in all senses of the word!”
Colin Parmley, Jackson Building Centres Grantham Branch Manager, added: “It is great that we are able to help with community projects and we are pleased to have been involved in this initiative.
