ABSEILING CHARITY CHALLENGE FOR JACKSON’S STAFF
18th August 2008
Two adventurous Jackson Building Centres employees are set to help raise thousands for Kidney Research UK by abseiling off Britain’s third tallest church.
Sleaford Branch Manager Mick Mattison (37) and Heavyside Assistant Martyn Pickworth (34) will abseil 143ft down Grantham’s St Wulfram’s church on 13th September at 2.30pm.
The pair are hoping to raise more than £400 for Kidney Research UK by taking part in the stunt and will be easy to spot in their specially designed blue T-shirts provided by Jackson’s.
Mick, from Grantham, said: “Kidney Research UK contacted our branch to see if we’d be interested in taking part in the abseil and we just thought we’ll have a go as it’s a very worthwhile challenge.
“I’m a bit nervous about it, but I think I’ll be ok and I have been abseiling before back at school and during Jackson’s team days. This will be the biggest abseil though!”
Around 100 thrill seekers are set to take part in the charity abseil, raising over £10,000 for Kidney Research UK.
Pete Revell, Lincolnshire’s Kidney Research UK Community Fundraising Manager, is organising the event.
“We wanted local people and companies to get involved in the abseil and Jackson’s seemed an ideal business to contact,” said Pete.
He added: “No other charity has abseiling off St Wulfram’s church so it will be unique and it’s a landmark for the area. The views over from the top span over three counties; it’s brilliant when you’re up there.”
