ANDY STEPS UP THE JACKSON LADDER

10th September 2008

Jackson Building Centres’ Andy Smylie has taken a step up the career ladder.

Andy (45) from Bingham, has been promoted to Building Department Manager at the Newark branch following 16 years at the company.

After joining Jackson’s in 1992 as a yardman he has progressed through the ranks to work on the main counter and in the Building Department sales office.

Andy was appointed as Building Department Manager last month (July) and is now responsible for 10 staff members at the branch.

Within the position Andy will manage customer sales and run the builders’ yard while identifying affordable quality products to introduce to the branch’s already extensive range.

Andy said: “I hope to achieve as many new sales as I can and as a team we’re trying our best to promote new goods and get them at the best possible prices for our customers.”

He added: “The office has been very busy over the last month and since becoming manager I have found it very interesting and a lot more in depth than my previous position.”

Andy aims to develop his new role to cater for the current building climate, which has been hit by the much-discussed credit crunch and a slowdown in the property market.

“I’ll also be going out to see potential clients to promote the products we have, which is new to this position as it was mainly office-based before,” said Andy.

Andy’s promotion coincides with the branch’s merge of the building and timber departments into one sales office for improved efficiency.

Working alongside Arthur Rigley, the branch’s Timber Department Manager, Andy will co-run the new Heavyside Sales Office.

Newark branch Manager, Ian Hough, said of Andy’s promotion: “Andy has grasped every task and role we’ve given him with enthusiasm.

“He’s been with us for a number of years now and has continually progressed within the company. He has a large understanding of both our products and our customers; he is very customer focused making him ideal for this position.”
