JACKSON’S BACK COPS PYRENEAN RIDE FOR LIVES

1st November 2008

Jackson Building Centres is giving its full support to LIVES – the Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Services and is to sponsor Lincolnshire’s PCSO (Police Community Safety Officer) Mike Yardley for a gruelling 447 mile cycle ride across the Pyrenees next June.

The aim of the cycle challenge for Mike Yardley and 5 other Officers from Lincolnshire’s Police force is to raise public awareness and money for LIVES First Responders, the volunteers who give up their time to respond to emergencies in their local community.

Robin Laidler, Operations Director at Jackson Building Centres last week followed the cycling Police Officers to Cranwell Primary School for the official launch of the charity cycle ride.

Robin Laidler said:  “Jackson Building Centres is delighted to be involved in raising public awareness and funds for such an important charity.  We are spreading the word across our builders merchant branches in the Lincolnshire area and asking existing First Aider employees if they would like to be trained as a first aid responder for LIVES.  Early indications are that those staff are very keen, and we will be arranging suitable training from LIVES”.

The journey will take the riders from Hendaye on the Atlantic coast border with Spain across the back bone of the French Pyrenees Mountains to Cčrbere on the Mediterranean.  The route tackles 18 mountains, many of which feature prominently in the Tour de France, with a total ascent of 11,000 m.

This ride is not for the faint hearted and requires a huge amount of commitment from each of the riders.
